Everything Crawfish!Dec
06
As we get into winter crawfish imitating baits really come into play. Ever wonder what the crawfish in your area really look like. Well catching one with a minnow trap and a piece of bacon for bait would work, or you could check this site which has color photographs of each species by state.
UMF Flutter Spoon FishingDec
06

I watched with interest the matches from the past two weeks on Ultimate Match Fishing. JT Kenney used a plain nickel flutter spoon to win his matches against Fish Fishburne on the famous ledges of Kentucky Lake. The big flutter spoon is a weapon when the fish are on structure spots. Like a big deep diving crankbait the big spoon catches quality fish. Ultimate Match Fishing is hosted by Joe Thomas and can be found on the Outdoor Channel. Check the show out. There are a few more matches remaining in this year’s season.
Sunrises, Sunsets and Big FishNov

“A day on the water cures a lot of ills.” I think this statement rings true for a lot of us. Here is a shot of a beautiful sunset on Falcon Lake in deep south Texas after a full day on the lake. The other shot is a good one I caught yesterday just before sunset on Canyon Lake just north of San Antonio. The catching was tough but we ended up the day with this big one. On this Thanksgiving day I’m especially grateful for every day I get on the water.
Happy Thanksgiving 2009 to you and your families from everyone at Amistad Tackle.
Lake Austin Toad!Nov
11

This is a 13.06 pound 25 inch toad the guys at Texas Parks and Wildlife electrofished from Lake Austin (located in the city of Austin, TX) on their recent fish population survey. The fish was released back into the lake after being weighed and measured.
Four Days at FalconNov
11

I just returned from four days at Falcon Lake on the Texas/Mexico border. I hadn’t been down there since the lake re-filled. All I can say is what a fishery! Five to ten pound fish are common. The lake is huge and you can fish shallow cover or structure spots. You can flip trees/bushes, drag a rig/football jig, crank etc. Everything a bass fisherman could want and it is so big you’ll never run out of places to try. The lake is also relatively unpressured. We spent one day in the Salinias creek arm on the Mexican side of the lake and never saw another bass boat the whole time. I fished with good friend Randy Myers who caught our largest fish (between 7 and 8 pounds) on a big spinnerbait. I am already thinking about my next trip to this special place. Here are a few photos of some of the bigger fish.
Yellow BellyNov
01

This is a new color we’ve come up with. It has a lot of clear yellow on the breast and some irridescent blue under the green scaled back. Another good sunfish color.
Banging Heads on Clear Lake DocksNov
01

Clint Winger shows off a couple of good ones he caught fishing docks on California’s Clear Lake. He said the bite was off, but he was still able to “bang a few heads” with the Head Banger wacky jighead!

Curious to know what all the fuss is in Japan and on the Tour with wacky jigheads? Look no further!
Amistad Tackle’s resident angling expert Steve Magnelia has written a fantastic in-depth article that gives you the ins and outs of fishing the wacky jighead finesse technique.

Kentucky Lake RenegadesOct
14
Good friend Aaron Walters and tourney partner Trent Wilson won the Renegade Marine Series Championship on Kentucky Lake last weekend.
This was a three day event and on day one the guys weighed only 3 pounds, but on day two they had 17 pounds and made the top fifty, qualifying to fish on day three. On day three they had 22 pounds and won the tournament. They were awarded a Nitro bass boat for their efforts. They caught their fish cranking shallow ledges. What is really remarkable is Aaron landed two five pound largemouth (one on each crankbait hook) simultaneously on day three. Way to go guys!!!
Trokar vs. Ultra PointOct
14
Check out this comparison I found on 7/24 Outdoors of the Eagle Claw Trokar vs. Mustad Ultra-Point hooks.
The Trokar is an awesome looking new hook from Eagle Claw. The Mustad Ultra Point has been around for years and has a reputation for having a very sharp, yet durable hook point that doesn’t roll easily. As you can tell from the Amistad Tackle hook line we like Mustad Ultra Points.

This looks like an interesting film with some great photography. Check out the two movie trailers here.
New 3/4 oz. Hawg-N Flutter Spoon Sep
12

We now have our Hawg-N flutter spoon available in a new 3/4 ounce size.
Compared to the 1 ounce size the 3/4 ounce has a less erratic action on the drop. The 1 ounce size flutters and darts. The 3/4 ounce on a lift and drop retrieve has a real nice tight flutter as it goes to the bottom. The 3/4 ounce should be a good one when the fish are a little less active.
The fish in the photo was caught last winter on the 3/4 ounce size. Drop some metal on em!
A VixenSep
04

We had a request for a sunfish color on the discontinued Reaction Innovations topwater “The Vixen”. We couldn’t be happier with the results. Now it really is a “Vixen” the bass can’t resist. This ought to be a good one around the grass. We can paint this color scheme on any bait and will add it to our crankbait line in the near future.
Crank'em and Yank'em on Kentucky LakeAug

Another good one from the Kentucky Lake bass factory. Aaron Walters caught this one on a Luckcraft D20 crankbait in a special color.
